Salvia Sideboard
This is the bottom part of the Salvia buffet, built in Japanese walnut. Doors are framed 3-ply laminations for long term stability and are book matched. Very difficult to work with, this rare wood has beautiful grain and warmth, more clearly visible on the Iris coffee table.
Together with coffee tables, I find that buffets, sideboards, display units and
hallway tables offer a tremendous range for artistic expression. These are my
trademark units and some are a piece of art on their own, without displaying
anything on them.
Some of my units may look light and “floating”, yet they are very
sturdy and can carry a lot of weight. These are pieces where great joinery,
spectacular woods, and elegant design can all be featured in harmony. For this
category of furniture, it is often advantageous to work with the customer,
designing a unit optimized for their environment. This might be accomplished
by including some secondary design lines from their room or outside their window
into the unit.
